Many of the challenges facing nurses across Wales were raised with Natasha Asghar MS as she took part in the Royal College of Nursing’s Political Leadership Programme this week.
The South East Wales Senedd Member took part in a round table chat about her job before taking part in a question and answer session with health workers.
They talked about the struggles with recruitment, COVID pressures, mental health support, NHS budgets, student placements, dentistry, pay, and problems within certain health boards amongst other things.
Natasha Asghar MS:
“It was an eye-opening experience to hear first-hand some of the problems and concerns facing nurses and other health care staff across Wales.
“Our NHS does a fantastic job, but at the moment it is under severe pressure with waiting times spiralling out of control, huge numbers of staff vacancies and low levels of staff morale.
“I would like to thank all of the health workers for being so frank and open with me, and I will be raising their concerns at every available opportunity in the Senedd.
“Nurses – and other health workers – went above and beyond throughout the pandemic and it is only right they receive the support and pay they deserve.”

Siaradwyd am y trafferthion wrth recriwtio, pwysau COVID, cymorth iechyd meddwl, cyllidebau’r GIG, lleoliadau myfyrwyr, deintyddiaeth, tâl, a phroblemau gyda rhai byrddau iechyd ymysg pethau eraill.
Natasha Asghar AS:
“Roedd yn agoriad llygaid clywed rhai o’r problemau a’r pryderon sy’n wynebu nyrsys a staff gofal iechyd eraill ledled Cymru.
“Mae ein GIG yn gwneud gwaith gwych, ond ar hyn i bryd mae dan bwysau enfawr gydag amseroedd aros y tu hwnt i reolaeth, nifer enfawr o swyddi gwag ac ysbryd isel ymysg staff.
“Hoffwn ddiolch i’r holl weithwyr iechyd am fod mor ddi-flewyn-ar-dafod gyda mi, a byddaf yn codi eu pryderon bob cyfle posib yn y Senedd.
“Aeth nyrsys – a gweithwyr iechyd eraill – tu hwnt i’r disgwyl gydol y pandemig a does dim dwywaith y dylent dderbyn y cymorth a’r cyflog y maent yn ei haeddu.”
