As the National Lottery marks its 30th anniversary this year, Natasha Asghar MS is encouraging constituents in South Wales East to participate in National Lottery Open Week 2025, an annual celebration of National Lottery funding.
From Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 March 2025, National Lottery players can access exclusive offers at hundreds of funded venues by presenting any valid online or retail National Lottery ticket, Scratchcard or Instant Win Game. These offers include free entry to museums and heritage sites, behind-the-scenes tours of sporting venues, complimentary refreshments, and special access to cultural performances.
Last year, 56,000 people enjoyed special offers at nearly 500 funded locations throughout the UK, from historical houses and wildlife reserves to art galleries and theatres. Participating organisations included the National Trust, Imperial War Museum and Eden Project.
This year, more than 400 venues will be opening their doors to the public, and there is something to excite everyone. Whether it’s:
- delving into the past at historical houses, castles and museums
- embracing nature in all its glory at wildlife hotspots
- reliving iconic moments at famous sports venues or,
- enjoying a culture fix at an array of art galleries, theatres and other creative spaces
Since The National Lottery's launch in 1994, an incredible £50 billion has been raised for Good Causes, with 700,000 individual grants being awarded in the areas of arts, sport, community and heritage.
In South Wales East, many local organisations have received vital National Lottery funding, with many grants supporting grassroots charities and community groups with annual incomes under £500,000. This funding has helped tackle pressing challenges including the cost-of-living pressures, supported environmental sustainability, fostered creative talent, supported the elderly, and created opportunities for young people.
With National Lottery funding transforming lives across South Wales East, Natasha Asghar MS is backing Open Week 2025 and encouraging local constituents to explore the diverse range of offers available from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 March 2025.
Natasha Asghar MS said: "The National Lottery's impact on South Wales East has been nothing short of transformative. From breathing new life into our community centres to safeguarding our precious heritage and powering local sports teams, this vital funding has helped forge stronger, more resilient communities across our area.
"What truly stands out is how this funding reaches the heart of our community, supporting the local charities and grassroots organisations that are the lifeblood of South Wales East. While National Lottery jackpot winners make headlines, the real success story is how these organisations, often with modest grants, create extraordinary change because they understand exactly that our community needs.
"With £30 million being raised every week for good causes across the UK, it’s only right that we thank National Lottery players for their continued support, and I would strongly encourage everyone in South Wales East to explore the offers available this National Lottery Open Week and recognise the invaluable contributions of volunteers who play a vital role in delivering these projects.”
