Students at Monmouth School for Girls and Monmouth School for Boys were given an insight into life as a Member of the Senedd this week.
Natasha Asghar, the MS for South East Wales, spoke with around 140 students at Monmouth’s Blake Theatre on Thursday morning in her pledge to raise awareness of the Welsh Parliament and encourage more people from across Wales to get involved in politics.
With a packed-out hall she talked about the qualities needed to be a politician, what the job entails, diversity, her personal life, and Labour’s controversial plans to add more politicians to the Senedd and introduce gender quotas.
Students also quizzed Natasha over devolution, Brexit, and politics in Westminster before taking part in workshops.
Natasha Asghar MS said:
“It has been incredibly difficult to visit schools and talk to students in recent times because of the pandemic so I jumped at the opportunity to speak with youngsters at Monmouth School for Boys and Monmouth School for Girls.
“Based on some of the great and challenging questions they asked me, I have no doubt that I was in the midst of some future politicians.
“I would like to say a massive thank you to the schools for having me and to the students for listening to me. I hope I managed to ignite their political passions and hope to see them debating in the Senedd chamber one day.”
