Natasha Asghar MS recently met with care experienced young people from all over Wales at the Senedd to hear about their campaign to build a care system with love at its heart.
The young people had brought to the Senedd what they believe to be Wales’ biggest scarf.
By the time it is finished it will be made up of almost 8,000 squares – one for each child currently in the care system in Wales and will be over 700 metres long.
People from all over Wales and beyond have been sewing, knitting, and crocheting, showing their love and concern for care experienced children and their support for a care system built on love.
The scarf is a symbol of warmth and care, of the chance to build lasting loving relationships that every child needs.
Natasha Asghar MS said: “It was great to meet Jo, Brendan and the other young people and to hear about their campaign. The scarf is a really imaginative way to symbolise a care system with love at its heart. Making a contribution of a square or two to the scarf is a great way for us all to send a message of support to care experienced children and young people. The aim is to complete the scarf with 7,983 squares, one for each child in care, by Care Leavers Week in October. Either I’m going to have a go at making some myself or handicrafts aren’t something I’m good at, but I’m happy to support the campaign in other ways.
“If anyone in my region would like to contribute they are welcome to drop squares – which need to measure 8 inches by 8 inches – off at my office in Newport and I’ll pass them on. Or you can send direct to Voices From Care Cymru, 45 the Parade, Cardiff, CF243AB. Let’s show some love to our care experienced children.”

Erbyn iddi gael ei gorffen bydd yn cynnwys bron i 8,000 sgwâr - un ar gyfer pob plentyn sydd yn y system ofal yng Nghymru ar hyn o bryd a bydd dros 700 metr o hyd.
Mae pobl o bob cwr o Gymru a thu hwnt wedi bod yn gwnïo, gwau a chrosio, gan ddangos eu cariad a'u pryder am blant â phrofiad o fod mewn gofal a'u cefnogaeth i system ofal sydd wedi'i seilio ar gariad.

Meddai Natasha Asghar AS: "Roedd hi'n wych cael cwrdd â Jo, Brendan a'r bobl ifanc eraill a chlywed am eu hymgyrch. Mae'r sgarff yn ffordd lawn dychymyg o symboleiddio system ofal gyda chariad yn sail iddi. Mae cyfrannu sgwâr neu ddau at y sgarff yn ffordd wych i bob un ohonom anfon neges o gefnogaeth i blant a phobl ifanc sydd â phrofiad o fod mewn gofal. Y nod yw cwblhau'r sgarff gyda 7,983 sgwâr, un ar gyfer pob plentyn mewn gofal, erbyn Wythnos Genedlaethol Ymadawyr Gofal ym mis Hydref. Rwy'n mynd i roi cynnig ar wneud rhai fy hun ond dydy gwaith llaw ddim yn un o’m cryfderau, felly rwy’n hapus i gefnogi'r ymgyrch mewn ffyrdd eraill.
"Os hoffai unrhyw un yn fy rhanbarth gyfrannu mae croeso iddyn nhw adael sgwariau - sydd angen mesur 8 modfedd wrth 8 modfedd - yn fy swyddfa yng Nghasnewydd a byddaf yn eu pasio ymlaen. Neu gallwch anfon yn uniongyrchol at Voices From Care Cymru, 45 Y Pared, Caerdydd, CF243AB. Gadewch i ni ddangos rhywfaint o gariad at ein plant sydd â phrofiad o fod mewn gofal."
