The Grange University Hospital opened in November 2020 outside Cwmbran. A team from the Health Inspectorate Wales (HIW) visited the new hospital on multiple occasions in August 2022 with inspectors stating that they "were not assured that the processes and systems in place were sufficient to ensure that patients consistently received an acceptable standard of care".
All Accident and Emergency services for the Aneurin Bevan Health Board are now located at The Grange University Hospital after the downgrading of services at Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny and the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. The report found that the A&E staff "could not always deliver care to the standard they wanted", and that patients deserve.
I am campaigning to improve facilities at the hospital, with patients waiting over 15 hours in a cramped waiting room with uncomfortable chairs, or sitting ambulances. Action needs to be taken so that patients can receive effective and timely care by the dedicated hardworking staff.
