Local Senedd Member, Natasha Asghar, has called on the Welsh Government to provide Big Pit National Coal Museum with a three year guaranteed funding package to allow it to plan and secure its future development.
Natasha visited Big Pit to discover more about Wales’ industrial coal mining heritage.
Big Pit is one of Britain’s leading mining museums with facilities to educate and entertain all age groups.
During the visit Natasha toured the coal mine, the historic colliery buildings and viewed the exhibitions in the pithead baths.
Natasha Asghar said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Big Pit National Coal Museum which offers an exciting and informative day out for all the family.”
“It was particularly interesting the hear about their skills development and work placement programmes providing an opportunity for people to gain transferable skills and experiences through on-the-job training, allowing them to explore their career options.”
“During the visit the point was made that a three year guaranteed funding package would enable Big Pit to plan the future development of the museum for the long term and I am calling on the Welsh Government to provide this much needed certainty.”
“I would like to thank the Mine Manager, Huw Jones, and all his team for making me so welcome.”
