Natasha Asghar MS has backed a campaign to tackle online sexist hate as this year’s UEFA Women’s European Championships got underway.
EE’s Hope United campaign is aiming the positive impact men can have by becoming allies to women during the Euros, encouraging them to challenge sexist abuse when they see it.
A group of Welsh Conservative Senedd Members joined Natasha Asghar MS as she showed her support for the campaign in the Welsh Parliament this week.
Donning her Hope United football shirt, Natasha was joined by Welsh Conservative colleagues Peter Fox MS, Mark Isherwood MS, Tom Giffard MS and James Evans MS.
Natasha Asghar MS said:
“There is absolutely no place in society for sexist behaviour and I applaud EE for launching this fantastic campaign to tackle online hate.
“With the Women’s Euros underway, there will no doubt be a small but vocal minority spreading hate towards our athletes from behind a keyboard.
“Although I have been fortunate enough not to receive any online abuse since becoming the first woman of colour to be elected to the Senedd, sadly that hasn’t always been the case.
“Many years ago, I was trolled and it was truly awful because it not only upset me deeply, but it had a major impact on my family and my career.
“Now however, I am stronger than ever and am so proud to be where I am today, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with some wonderful colleagues and people who treat me as their equal wit sincere dignity and respect.
“I would also like to say a huge thank you to my Welsh Conservative colleagues for showing their support for this campaign. I hope they, and others, will call out sexist abuse when they see it.”

AS a chydweithwyr yn cefnogi ymgyrch i fynd i’r afael â chasineb rhywiaethol
Mae Natasha Asghar AS wedi cefnogi ymgyrch i fynd i’r afael â chasineb rhywiaethol ar-lein ar drothwy Pencampwriaethau Ewrop i Fenywod UEFA eleni.
Mae ymgyrch Hope United EE yn ceisio hybu’r effaith bositif y gall dynion ei chael drwy fod yn gymheiriaid i fenywod yn ystod yr Ewros, ac yn eu hannog i herio cam-drin rhywiaethol os ydyn nhw’n dod ar ei draws.
Ymunodd grŵp o Aelodau o’r Senedd o’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig â Natasha Asghar AS wrth iddi ddangos ei chefnogaeth i’r ymgyrch yn y Senedd yr wythnos hon.
Roedd Natasha’n gwisgo ei chrys pêl-droed Hope United gyda balchder, a daeth ei chydweithwyr o’r Ceidwadwyr Cymreig, Peter Fox AS, Mark Isherwood AD, Tom Giffard AS a James Evans AS i ymuno â hi.
Meddai Natasha Asghar AS:
“Does dim lle o gwbl mewn cymdeithas i ymddygiad rhywiaethol ac rwy’n cymeradwyo EE am lansio’r ymgyrch ragorol hon i fynd i’r afael â chasineb ar-lein.
“Gyda chystadleuaeth Ewros y Menywod wedi dechrau, does dim dwywaith y bydd lleiafrif bach ond uchel eu cloch yn lledaenu casineb tuag at ein hathletwyr, a hynny wrth guddio y tu ôl i’w bysellfyrddau.
“Er fy mod wedi bod yn ddigon ffodus i beidio â derbyn unrhyw gam-drin ar-lein ers dod y fenyw o liw gyntaf i gael ei hethol i’r Senedd, yn anffodus nid dyna fel mae hi wedi bod bob tro.
“Flynyddoedd yn ôl, bu’n rhaid i mi ddelio ag ymgyrch trolio yn fy erbyn. Roedd yn brofiad echrydus oherwydd nid yn unig oedd hyn yn brofiad a berodd ofid mawr i mi ond cafodd effaith fawr ar fy nheulu a fy ngyrfa hefyd.
“Fodd bynnag, nawr rwy’n gryfach nag erioed ac mor falch o fod ble’r ydw i heddiw, yn sefyll law yn llaw gyda chydweithwyr hyfryd a phobl sy’n fy nhrin yn gyfartal gydag urddas a pharch.
“Hoffwn hefyd ddiolch o galon i fy nghydweithwyr yn y Ceidwadwyr Cymreig am ddangos eu cefnogaeth i mi gyda’r ymgyrch hwn. Gobeithio y byddan nhw, ac eraill, yn tynnu sylw at gam-drin rhywiaethol os ydyn nhw’n dod ar ei draws.”
